In one of the best single tournaments in Loyola Mock Trial history, the LUMT Iowa jinx was broken in grand fashion. With 70+ teams split into two divisions at the Loras College National Invitational, Loyola emerged with the two best teams and won two first place trophies.
495 competed in the Gold Division against A teams from across the country. With two-ballot victories against Hamline and Bowling Green on day one, splitting close ballots with Macalester in round three, 495 finally swept two ballots from Michigan in the final round to win the championship.
494 competed against B teams in the Purple Division, clearly overmatched their opponents in going 8-0, only the second time a Loyola team has ever done so. Facing Wisconsin, UMKC, SLU, and Macalester, no ballot was close and the division championship was relatively easy.
Only one Loyola team has ever won two tournament championships in one year, but in the 2009-2010 invitational season, both 494 and 495 achieved that feat. After finishing the greatest invitational season in program history, Loyola sends there strong teams into regionals. 494 will travel back to Joliet, while 495 and 496 look to take on the field in Milwaukee. In three weeks, the road to Memphis begins.
