Loyola started the 2010-2011 campaign with a strong showing at the Scarlet & Gray Invitational hosted by Ohio State University. 495 split with Pittsburgh to kick off the season and followed with two wins against Ohio State in round two and a win and tie in both rounds 3 and 4 against Ohio State and Miami (OH), respectively. That was good enough for a 5-1-2 (6-2) record and second place. Senior captain Devon Holstad earned 19 ranks as Opening Attorney for the defense to earn his seventh career Outstanding Attorney award. Junior David Weber earned 17 ranks as a plaintiff witness for his sixth career Outstanding Witness award.
494 got off to a strong start with a win and tie against Ohio State in round one and two wins against Pittsburgh in round two before a loss and tie against Ohio State in round three and a split with Miami (OH) in round four. The 4-2-2 (5-3) result was good enough for seventh place. Senior Christine Murphy earned a perfect 20 ranking as the defense closing attorney for her second career Outstanding Attorney award.
For both teams consisting of half first-year competitors, the two top-ten results are certainly encouraging. Loyola Mock Trial will be back in action October 29-31 when 494 and 495 travel to Lexington, Kentucky for the third straight year to compete in the Eastern Kentucky University Invitational.
