494 and 496 traveled to the South Bend regional and faced some of the toughest competition of the entire season. 494 drew perennial national championship contender and 2009 National Champion Northwood University in the first round, fighting to a well-deserved split. After taking two ballots from Valparaiso, 494 dropped two ballots to UIC before beating Northwestern to finish 5-3. The result was good enough for 10th place, which earned 494 an open bid to the St. Louis ORCS, where they will join 495 in trying to qualify for Minneapolis.
496 faced one of the toughest schedules at the tournament, including three of the top six qualifiers. After a split with Illinois in round one, 496 took two ballots from Hillsdale College before dropping both ballots to Notre Dame and Northwood in rounds three and four. While they didn't end the season as strong as they'd hoped, the mostly-freshman team showed marked improvement over the year and still made an impression at the regional tournament, winning the Spirt of AMTA Award with a perfect 30/30 ranks. It is the third Spirit of AMTA Award for the Loyola Mock Trial this year.
