It was a tense tense award ceremony, but for the first time in Loyola Mock Trial's ten year history, both 494 and 495 will be competing at the National Championship tournament. After a grinding weekend of tough competition, both teams went 5-3 in tying for 4th place along with three other teams. With five teams tied for only three spots, Loyola's team members and coaches waited anxiously as the bids were announced.
After 494 was announced, 495 sat through an excruciatingly prolonged award ceremony as the 5th place team and two honorable mentions were announced. Fortunately, their 2-0 wins over Kansas and Louisville along with a 4th round split with DePaul were enough to overcome a 2nd round 0-2 loss to California-Berkeley. 495's CS of 17 clinched the sixth and final bid to the National Championship. This is the fifth appearance overall at the National Championship for 495. The team will be competing for the third year in a row and fourth in five years.
