Loyola sent two teams to Lexington for this year's tournament hosted by Eastern Kentucky and Bellarmine. The newly named Kentucky Classic saw two impressive Loyola teams leave their mark in a big way, with 495 finishing 4th and 494 finishing 5th. 495 faced both Furman teams in rounds one and two, winning both in the first round and dropping both in round two. They recovered to go 4-0 in rounds three and four against Sullivan and Lewis. 494 was 5-1 going into round four after winning two ballots against Middle Tennessee State and Rhodes and splitting with Furman. Their success was halted in round four by Miami with a loss and tie, but 5-2-1 was good enough for Loyola's second top five trophy of the tournament.
