In the final tournament of the first semester, Loyola Mock Trial continued its string of strong tournament finishes. 494 placed 2nd with a 7-1 record, narrowly missing out on a second straight championship. 495 placed 8th with a 5-2-1 record.
494 began the weekend with a furious start, going 6-0 out of the gate. They took two ballots each from Colorado College, Northwestern, and Illinois. In round four, 494 faced the only other 6-0 team - Illinois - with the tournament championship on the line. The round ended in a split, and Illinois took the title based on a higher strength of schedule. The 7-1 record brought 494s overall semester record to 32-15-1.
495 was also in place to finish in the top position after the first three rounds. In round one the team split ballots with cross-town rival Illinois-Chicago. In round two they took both ballots against Princeton, and in round three they earned two ballots against Wisconsin. Round four didn't go their way, unfortunately, with a loss and a tie against Illinois to bring their final record to 5-2-1. The result was good enough for 8th Place and rung in the semester record at 28-10-2. 496 did not compete this weekend but finished the semester with a 9-15 record. The program also had a combined 494/495 result of 3-5.
With the strong end to the season, the program will enter the winter break feeling confident and ready to get back in the coatroom come January. The spring semester schedule will feature the traditional tournaments at Ohio, Loras, and in Chicago (hosted by Northwestern). The feature of the schedule will be the program's first ever trip to the Hilltop Invitational hosted by Georgetown University.
