For the third time this season, Loyola placed two teams in the Top-5 at an invitational tournament. 494 earned 3rd place with a 7-1 record, while 495 took 5th with a 6-1-1 finish. 496 had two strong bookend rounds to tally a 4-4 record.
494 started the tournament 6-0, taking two ballots each from Truman State (+6, +6), Central Missouri (+3, +15), and Creighton (+8, +8). Round four saw a split with Drake, leading the team to a 7-1 record which was good enough for 3rd place.
495 got a strong start against Iowa, taking two ballots by 14 points each. Round two saw a close split against Cornell College (+4, -1), and round three featured two more wins against Macalester (+7, +2). In round four against Hamline, the team won a ballot by 15 points but tied the other to finish 6-1-1. The result was good for 5th place.
496 started and ended strong, winning two ballots in both round one and round four. In the first round against Bradley, 496 won by 20 and 6 points. In the next two rounds, however, the team lost two ballots to DePaul (-10, -1) and Wisconsin-Superior (-7, -12). They managed to win two close ballots against Iowa State (+1, +1) to finish at .500. The 4-4 result was the best 496 finish since the Lewis Flyer tournament in November.
With the invitational season now over, Loyola Mock Trial is focused on regionals. In two weeks 495 and 494 will travel to Topeka, Kansas, while 496 will head to Joliet the week after.
