Loyola Mock Trial will not be present when the American Mock Trial Association hits the beaches of Orlando for the 30th National Championship. Neither 495 nor 494 were able to muster the ballots needed to earn a bid out of the Hamilton Opening Round Championship this past weekend. 495 had a chance to punch their ticket after setting up a 4-2 record in the first three rounds. The tournament started with +16 and +19 wins against Ohio State. In round two they split against the second Ohio State team at the tournament (+6, -6) and in round three they split against Miami (+5, -5). Two victories in the final round would have seen 495 to the National Championship, but instead they dropped both to New York University (-6, -5).
494 looked to be in good shape after the first two rounds, splitting with Pittsburgh (+3, -3) and New York University (+4, -14). Round three, however, ended with two losses against Cincinnati (-2, -6), effectively eliminating them from contention. The team still brought their top game into round four against Carnegie Mellon, but they only earned a split (+3, -2).
While the end of the season came too soon for the program, a strong group of new competitors were brought in and will form a strong foundation for the program's future.
