In its eighth year of competition, Loyola returned to the National Championship Tournament for the third time, though it was the first time through the ORCS qualifying system. The criminal case was State v. Owens. On or about June 16, 2008, in Breckinridge County, Midlands, Jackie Owens and Casey Maxwell allegedly conspired to kill Jacob Bennett. All three were part owners of Trifecta Entertainment, one of Midlands' largest entertainment studios. Bennett's death was suspected to be the result of a business dispute.
